September Sneak Peek!
Beginning September 3 doll collectors can look forward to several sales presented by Sweetbriar Auctions featuring the eclectic collection of the late Anna May Case. Wide-ranging in scope, this enormous collection offers something for everyone.
The discovery of a thatched roof Breton cottage dollhouse filled with marvelous dollhouse-sized Breton furniture, each marked on the bottom by the craftsman was a find indeed! Jan Peterson and her husband Elwyn took on the restoration of the cottage for Jan’s customer. Now perfect in every detail including a family of Bretons, it was a magical transformation!
The wax lady, aka Carol Cameron, has shared her amazing collection of tiny, early wax dolls. Her rare examples, all pre-1850, are quite varied and typically in their original clothing which was often sewn on. Her article offers a wonderful opportunity to view these seldom seen dolls.
Bathing beauty expert Sharon Hope Weintraub writes about Galluba & Hofmann double bathing beauties. Have you ever seen one… I know I hadn’t! Expensive and difficult to make, they are extraordinary and worth the hunt.
Many collectors are unaware of the enormous output of the Lenci Company. In her article Judy Fisher writes about the delightful novelties that were often inspired by the popular Art Nouveau movement. Fetishes, tea cozies, egg covers, purses, laundry bags, bead dolls and more showcase the prolific imagination of company founder Elena Scavini.
Upon our return from the UFDC Convention, the first thing this editor does is compile the salesroom report. Who says shopping only happens during the convention!
A look at the upcoming Toledo Doll and Bear Show and record-breaking dolls at auction await readers in our September issue.
